Ruthie Mae Motton, born January 7, 1946 in Manning, South Carolina to Louis Robinson Sr. and Edith A. Robinson, transitioned from this life on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Ruthie graduated in 1965 from Morris High School in Bronx, New York. She lived her life in service of others. Ruthie was a proud retiree of the former Forum Healthcare System in Youngstown, Ohio and devoted 42 years of service, retiring from her employment as a Certified Sterile Processing Technician. She also later received her Culinary degree from The Winner Institute of Arts and Sciences in Transfer, Pennsylvania. Ruthie was formerly a longtime member of Holy Bible Church of God in Youngstown, Ohio and served there as the church clerk. She later joined Barbee’s Chapel Harvest Word Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2016, where she faithfully served as a church mother and a member of the Mission Committee. She enjoyed cooking & baking, arts & crafts, word search puzzles and spending time with family.
Ruthie Mae Robinson married Mr. William A. Motton Sr. on September 8, 1983, who later died on November 21, 1997.
Ruthie leaves her legacy of love and faith in the hearts of many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Robinson Sr. and Edith A. Robinson; son, Phillip A. Motton; stepdaughter, Sondra Motton-Jones; stepson, William Allen Motton Jr; brother, Booker T. Robinson; sisters, Annah O. Robinson-Burgess, Helen Robinson and Belle Wright. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Edith A. Motton and Lisa (Olajide) Ajayi; stepdaughter, Vonda Motton; Godson, Ellis (Taylor) Payne V; brothers, Louis Robinson Jr. and Roy Robinson; sister, Mary O. Robinson; grandchildren, Abron M. Hobby Jr, Tyler J. (Maliyah Cody-Russell) Hobby, Hannah Ajayi, Nehemiah Ajayi, Shyrah S.A. Johnson, Tia Haynes-Lee, Natasha Clemons, Shay-Yana Motton, Khyristin Motton, Paris (Johnathan Mussig) Blankenship, Andrew Motton, William A. (B. Michelle) Motton III, Wendell Motton, Noni Motton, Stacy (Kirk) Zents, Elliana A. Payne and Ellis Payne VI; several great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends to share her memory.
