Ronald Lynn 'Redd' Fearrington

Ronald Lynn "Redd" Fearrington, born on April 21, 1956, in Orange County, North Carolina, passed away on May 16, 2025, at Cone Health Alamance Regional, surrounded by family and love. He was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine B. Fearrington and William Paul Fearrington Sr., and his siblings Mary Irving and Barry Fearrington.

Redd was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Barbara Fried Fearrington. Together, they built a large blended family filled with love and connection. His children include Montego Fearrington, Shakera Ruffin (Stevie), Yate Starsk (Andre, Sr.), Brandy OBriant, Antonio McLeod, Samad Gunter, and Naja Riggsbee. He also leaves behind nine cherished grandchildren: Beasia Johnson, Shamyah Starks, Taylor Headen, Andre Starks Jr., Amier Alston, Elijah Ruffin, Xavier Ruffin, Imiyah, and Zachary Ruffin. His joy extended to his great-grandchildren, Daviyon Allison and Willow Thompson.

Ronald was a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, always present with a story, a joke, or a thoughtful gesture. He was known for his quick wit and loved making people laughhis humor brought light into every room he entered. He was an avid sports fan, proudly cheering on his favorite teamsespecially the UNC Tar Heels and the Washington Commandersbut nothing brought him more pride and excitement than supporting the sports played by the young children in his family.

Redd never met a stranger and made fast friends wherever he went. He could often be found browsing flea markets, thrift stores, and liquidation outlets, always on the hunt for a great deal or bulk bargainoften with the goal of keeping his family well-stocked with household essentials. He loved a lively debate, and his skillful aim was unmatched in games of horseshoes and cornhole. A faithful daily lottery player, Redd celebrated every winbig or smallwith the same joy and excitement.

Redd began his career at the Carolina Inn and later worked at UNC Hospitals and UNC-Chapel Hill. He went on to show off his handyman skills working in construction with Homes by Huff, Crossmans Community, and Beazer Homes. He spent the final 15 years of his career with the City of Mebane, retiring as the supervisor of the mowing crewa role he took great pride in and where he earned the respect of his colleagues.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. at Westwood Cemetery, located at Fidelity Ct., Davie Rd., Carrboro, NC 27510.

Following the service, a Celebration of Life will take place at 5:30 p.m. at The Carolina Inn, 211 Pittsboro Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.

Redds vibrant spirit, generous nature, and unforgettable presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and familyforever in our hearts.
