June (Allison) Yorio, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026. June was born in Mt. Vernon, NY to parents Anna and Harry Allison on June 16, 1937. She and her brother, Harry Jr., grew up on Archer Avenue in a vibrant neighborhood surrounded by many friends. She graduated from Mary Washington University in Virginia in 1959. As a member of the Newman Club in college, she went on a trip to Chicago, where she met Rosemary Curving née Spincola, who would become a lifelong friend. After college, the two traveled often, and at one point, Rosemary introduced June to Ted Yorio, a close friend of Rosemary's husband. June and Ted began dating and were married on April 29, 1962. June worked as a psychiatric social worker at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City while Ted started a career in advertising. They built a house in Cortlandt Manor, NY in 1970 and soon after had one son, Jeffrey. Ted's siblings, Judy and Frank, lived nearby and their families would convene for an Italian lunch every Sunday at the home of Ted's parents in Croton-on-Hudson. June and Ted lived in Westchester until 2016, when Ted passed away.
June moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina a few years later to be closer to her son, Jeff, who had moved south with his wife, Nicole Curinga and their two sons, Marlowe and Colin. June joined St. Thomas More church and made several good friends in her adopted southern home but always stayed in touch with those in New York.
June enjoyed gardening, reading, yoga, and doting on each of the dogs she had as pets over the years. She also liked to collect interesting pieces that she added to her home decor. In her later years, June liked to try new recipes and found joy in watching movies with friends. She was an adoring grandmother and frequently shared stories about her grandsons, Marlowe and Colin.
June is survived by her son, Jeff, daughter-in-law Nicole, grandsons Marlowe and Colin, her brother Harry, his wife Ginger, their children Laura, Harry, Mary Beth, John, and Ashley, as well as their grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Judy Coraggio, her brother-in-law Frank Yorio, their spouses, children, and grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service for June at the St. Thomas More Chapel in Chapel Hill on Saturday, March 14th at 11 a.m.
