Jesse Lewis Cradle

Mr. Jesse Lewis Cradle was born on July 3, 1947, in Durham, North Carolina, to the late Kelly and Mazie Cradle. He was preceded in death by his siblings Linda Faye Cradle, John Henry Cradle, and Ervin Sylvester Cradle (Elizabeth). A proud graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1965, Jesse was known for his deep voice, his laughter that could fill a room, and his lifelong love for the UNC Tar Heels. 

In 1965, Jesse met the love of his life, Mary Lee "Shorty" Williams (who preceded him in death in 2007). Their union blossomed into a beautiful family. Jesse was the devoted father of Valerie Michelle Cradle (Ron) and he lovingly embraced LaTonya Cradle-Chisholm (Bryant), Kisha Kiney, and Fredrick Kiney as his own. 

Jesse retired in 2006 from Bobby Arrington Contractors after a long career in construction. He also worked for The Hogan Farm and helped countless other people and was a pillar in the community. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, spending time with family and friends, and cheering for his Tar Heels. Though sometimes reserved, he had a gift for making people laugh and a heart that welcomed everyone.

He leaves behind cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Ahnalee Cradle-Williams (Lymone); Teaira Jones Jordan); Jacynta Howell and great-granddaughter Arianna Howell; Jataisha Barnard and great-granddaughter Sanyha Barnard; Shawntaya Peaks, Vashawn Peaks Jr.; Jazmine Barnard and great-granddaughters Zariyah & Zylah; Jada Barnard, Chanel Randolph, Javonte Herring, and August Kiney. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones, including Tammy Cradle Johnson, Julia "Ann" Weaver (Ray), Ervin Jr., Jaqueline Cradle, Pamala Tedder, John Jr., Bernice Cradle, cousins Edward Ken Leak, Jennie Leak Johnson (Oscar), Chris Hogan (Jane), "Auntie" DeLoris, and countless other family and friends. 

Rest peacefully, Jesse. Your love and laughter will live on, in the hearts of all who knew you.
