James Tell Pippin was born June 5, 1967, to Marlou Foushee Pippin and James Tell Pippin, Sr. Tell as he was affectionally called was very happy in sharing the same birth date (June 5th) with his aunt Pinky (Sherron Pippin Paris), who was also delighted.
As an infant Tell was christened at St. Joseph CME Church. Later in life he joined First Baptist Church here in Chapel Hill, and from there he returned to St. Joseph to attend service with his mother Marlou and grandparents, Garland and Osa Mae Foushee. There he was nourished and learned the importance of giving his life to Christ.
Tell attended his elementary schooling at Holt Elementary in Durham, NC and upon moving to Chapel Hill, attended Frank Porter Graham, Culbreth Jr. High and Chapel Hill High School and from there attended Durham Tech with pursuit in Business, General Education and trainee in retail. He worked for many years in department stores and grocery stores until his health began to fail and lived at home with much care from his family (mother and grandparents) for many years, and later to reside at the Signature Health Care Facility.
In Chapel Hill until his health began to decline more with a brief time and stay in ICU Hospital (UNC) until God called him home to a final rest.
Tell had a great vocabulary and spoke very fluently and kind to everyone. He had many joyful hobbies: listening to old R&B songs, playing Bingo always to win, and singing with his melodic voice. He was always an advocate fan of Carolina Basketball.
James is preceded in death by all four grandparents: Garland and Osa Mae Foushee, of Chapel Hill, and Richard and Jenny Pippin of Durham, NC. He was recently preceded in death by his half-brother, Daniel Pippin from Knoxville, Tennessee; and two special cousins, Darrel Foushee of Chapel Hill, and Maurice Dennis of Philadelphia.
He leaves to cherish his memories his mother Marlou (Jim Merritt), his father James T. Pippin Sr. and a special like second mom Brenta Jones Baldwin; his loving aunt, Deborah Gracy-Tucker (Ron) and cousins, Monisa Frye (Tino), Valenisa Gonzalez (Augusto), Monisa Frye Jr. and Denise Haith (Gary); his uncle, Alfred Foushee; great aunt, Hattie Dennis; great uncle, Norris Trice (Lovie) and cousins, Woody Trice and Marty Trice; aunt, Sherron “Pinky” Paris (George) and cousins, Jennifer, Caleb, Gabriel and Nina; uncle, Richard “Tip” Pippin (Gail); special cousin, Arminta Foushee Simmons (Geoff) and cousin, Christian Foushee-Green; cousin, Renada Hester (Bryan) and cousins, Nalah and Bryan Jr. James also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends.
