Hope Michelle Crumpler, born on July 31, 1974, in Newark, New Jersey, to Mary A. Summers and Lamont Crumpler, Sr., entered eternal rest on August 21, 2025. She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend whose life reflected love, strength, and compassion.
Hope was a graduate of Orange High School in Hillsborough, North Carolina, and later pursued a career in healthcare. She received certifications in both nursing and dialysis technology from Durham Technical Community College, completing her dialysis tech program on November 26, 2019. Caring for others came naturally to her, she treated nearly everyone she met as if they were family.
Known for her free spirit and playful yet firm demeanor, Hope enjoyed listening to old-school favorites like Whitney Houston alongside new voices such as Mariah Carey and Beyoncé. She loved cooking, playing cards, reading, casino games, and doting on any small furry animal she came across. She also cherished laughter and a good joke, even if it took a moment for the punchline to land. And if you knew Hope well, you knew her love for bread—so much so that as a young woman she was affectionately nicknamed “the Bread Lady.”
She was preceded in death by her father, Lamont Crumpler, Sr., and her sister, Tynesa Shanell Crumpler.
Hope leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Tracey McCauley, Jr.; her nephews, Jamichael Brown and Marcellus Brown; her honorary son, Edward Beckford; and Amelia and Aiden Ellis, children she lovingly helped raise. She is also survived by her biological mother, Mary A. Summers; her brother, Lamont Crumpler; along with extended family and friends, including Betty Williams (Mom), Felicia Edwards (sister), Harriet Williams and her husband Kenny (sister and brother-in-law), and her special friend, Minnie Lyons. Hope will forever be remembered for her resilience, heart of gold, and the ability to make everyone feel at home.
