Eric Joseph Maniace

Eric Joseph Maniace, born June 22, 1988, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away March 18, 2026, in Boston, Massachusetts, where he lived.

Eric was a deeply intelligent, creative, and independent man who walked through life in his own way. He was thoughtful, strong-willed, and never afraid to question, explore, or see the world differently. Those who knew him understood that his mind was always working, always searching, always creating.

He had a deep love for music and a passion for strategic card games, where his sharp thinking and creativity came to life. He also enjoyed drawing, exploring ideas, and at times was drawn to a simpler, self-sufficient way of living. Eric loved animals and found connection in the things that brought him both challenge and peace.

Eric is survived by his wife; his mother, Michelle Dingfelder; his dad, Mike Dingfelder; and his father, David Franzen. He is also survived by his siblings, Chane Carnell, James Dingfelder, Lucas Dingfelder, Sarah Dingfelder, and Thomas Dingfelder.

He was the first grandchild on both sides of his family and is lovingly remembered by his grandmother, DJ Maniace; his paternal grandparents, Norm and Jan Franzen; along with extended family and friends whose lives were touched by him.

Eric’s life was marked by depth, complexity, and individuality. He was greatly gifted, deeply loved, and will be profoundly missed.

Eric, you were my first. You made me a mom, and that is something I will carry with me every day of my life. You were brilliant, complicated, and uniquely your own, and I loved you through all of it. I will always love you. That never changes.
