Ella Frances Watson Glenn, beloved mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of God, was born to Joseph and Mary Wilson in Wake County, North Carolina. After a brief illness, she peacefully entered her heavenly rest, surrounded by the love she had long shared with others.
A lifelong learner and shining student, Ella Frances attended school in Raleigh from elementary through high school, earning academic honors and recognition. Her gifts extended beyond the classroom as she was frequently called from her studies to take part in school plays and singing performances, delighting those who heard her.
Guided by her deep Christian faith, Ella Frances lived by the commandment to love her neighbor as herself. Her life was defined by compassion, quiet strength, and a steadfast devotion to doing good. She lived the words of Galatians 6:9: “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not,” and she reaped a harvest of love, family, and lasting memories.
Ella Frances and John Thomas Watson were united in holy matrimony in 1950, and together they raised nine children. John Thomas preceded her in death. She later married Hubert Glenn, who also preceded her in death. Their early lessons of faith, resilience, and family shaped a life rich in purpose and affection.
She was a devoted mother to Kaye Jenkins (James), Denise Richardson (Emory), Tommy Glenn (Debra), Tommy Darrell Watson (Dori), Stan Watson (Eva), Tammy Watson-Smith (Peter), CeVera Silvis (Tim), Kimberly Parker (Lloyd), and Jacqueline Thomas. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Michael. Ella Frances cherished her 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her later years.
She is also survived by her sisters Hazel Bynum, Juanita Wilson, Josephine Stewart, and Verselle Shaw; her brothers Curtis Wilson, Greg Wilson, and Cecil Wilson; and a wide circle of family and friends who will forever carry her warmth, wisdom, and laughter in their hearts.
Ella Frances didn’t merely occupy space, she created it! She filled homes with kindness, filled lives with encouragement, and filled every gathering with love. Her legacy of faith, family, and faithful service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
However, her absolute highest personal accomplishment in lifewas being the mother of nine children. This was a role she embraced with fierce pride, endless patience, and boundless love. Her favorite playful mantra when speaking of her children’s, grandchildren’s or extended family’s achievements was always, "he's/she's a Watson ain't he/she?" This was a simple, proud refrain that captured her joy in family and the legacy she left behind.
