David Junior Dowdy

David was born to Katie Davis Dowdy and the late Junior Dowdy in Durham County on August 10, 1955. He graduated from Jordan High School, Durham, NC Class of 1973.

He was employed with UNC Hospitals Police within the departments of Security and Telecommunication. He retired on October 1, 2016 from UNC Health Care with 13 years of dedicated service. He was also employed with The Cedars of Chapel Hill for seven years in the Department of Security Services.

Although quiet in nature, he was an avid Jimi Hendrix fan and loved smooth jazz. He practiced holistic methods throughout his life, and always shared his knowledge with others on natural remedies. Most importantly, he was a devoted caregiver to his mother and will be sorely missed.

Brother, as he was affectionally known by his family, was preceded in death by his father Junior Dowdy, paternal grandmother Oggie Dowdy, and maternal grandmother Ethel Davis. He leaves to mourn his mother Katie Dowdy of the home; sister Stella Jones (Tommy Sr.) of Durham, NC; nephew Tommy Jones, Jr. and niece Monica Jones both of Durham, NC; aunts Rev. Gloria Moore (Allen) and Verly Powell both of Durham, NC, and Hattie Wilkerson of NJ; uncle Lennon Dowdy of Durham, NC; special friends Jay Davis, Norris Johnson, Corliss McEachin and the late Darryle Waller; and a host of other family members and friends.
