Craig Sheldon DePuy

April 13, 1960 — April 25, 2026

Clemmons

Craig Sheldon DePuy died peacefully on April 25, 2026 while reading devotions with his wife, Mary Stephens DePuy. This was their nightly routine throughout their 42 years of marriage. They were in Atlantic Beach, NC enjoying days of fellowship at a Rotary Conference. Craig was born on April 13, 1960 in Ithaca, NY. He graduated from Johnstown (NY) High School in 1978 and Roanoke College in 1985. He retired in 2022, after 35 years of proud service for the Boy Scouts of America.

Craig’s life was one of Christian service. He held church duties including Sunday school teacher, deacon, board chairman, and confirmation mentor. Craig was a bright light for innumerable friends, coworkers, and neighbors. An honorable man, he met every challenge with a calm demeanor, kind heart, and gentle words. Beyond that, he was an amazing father and father-in-law, and beloved partner to his wife. Over the years Craig was a Rotary member in Newport News, VA and Clemmons, NC. Since his retirement, Craig continued serving the Clemmons community as an active Rotarian. He enjoyed his recent tenure as Clemmons Rotary President and was looking forward to his new duties as a Rotary Area 4 Assistant Governor.

Craig is survived by his wife, Mary; his two sons, Luis DePuy (Noella) of Raleigh, NC and John DePuy of St. Petersburg, FL; his sister, Allyson Hurley, and niece, Sydney King; and treasured stepmother, Marianne DePuy, all of Baltimore, MD. Craig, lovingly known as Pop-Pop, was an adored playmate for his grandchildren, Hadley and Ellie, the children of Luis and Noella. Throughout his 42 years in the Stephens family, Craig was considered a son to Thelma and brother to Graham (Trina) with never an “in-law” joke from either side. Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Hadley and Cynthia DePuy; his brother, Guy DePuy; father-in-law, Graham Stephens; and brother-in-law, Bruce Stephens.

Visitation will be held at Clemmons United Methodist Church (Clemmons, NC) on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 6-8 PM. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the Clemmons United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service.
