Craig Henry Baxter

Dec 21, 1957 — Jun 13, 2026

Carrboro

Craig Henry Baxter passed away peacefully Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the home of his best friend Charles Suñé in Carrboro after a valiant two-and-one-half-year fight against cancer. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he was the second of three children. He was the son Charles Henry Baxter and Margaret Steepy.

Craig graduated from Oldham Technical College in 1979 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Shortly after graduation, Craig began his life of exploration and moved to Zambia, Africa. While there, Craig worked in Information Technology for a Copper Mine.

In 1984, Craig joined his mother Margaret, stepfather Donald and brother Philip in the United States moving to Goldsboro, NC. Initially he attended Community College under a Student Visa but later gained Permanent Residency in the US (Green Card). After a few years living in Goldsboro, he followed his career path in IT, moving to the Raleigh-Durham area in 1987 working for BASF, and later at startup companies NetEdgeSystems and Raindrop Geomagic. After several years, Craig decided to change his career and became a Realtor in the Chapel Hill – Carrboro area. He loved Real Estate and continued in the field for the rest of his life.

One of Craig’s proudest moments was when he became a US citizen in 2016. Craig’s passions included football (soccer), international travel, live music, and reading. Craig never met a stranger, and his friends are far and wide. He enjoyed meeting friends at the pub, which for the last several years has been Orange County Social Club in Carrboro.

Craig is survived by his sister Linda Hyett, brother Philip Ross(wife Kay), stepsisters Valerie Hampson, Kirsten Widener, Tracy Steepy, half-brother David Baxter, stepfather Tom Steepy, and eight nieces and nephews. His father Charles and mother Margaret preceded him in death.

Craig generously donated his body to science at the UNC Medical School in Chapel Hill where he will be teaching future doctors. Upon conclusion, Craig’s remains will be cremated and returned to the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the UNC Cancer Hospital or to UNC Hospice.

We will celebrate the life of Craig Henry Baxter on Sunday, July 12 at 3pm at Orange County Social Club, located at 108 E. Main Street in Carrboro, NC. Please join us as we laugh and cry together and toast our dear friend.
