Clarence Edward Farrar

January 21, 1938 — August 10, 2025

Clarence Edward Farrar, son of the late Toy Sr. and Della Farrar, was born on January 21, 1938, in Orange County, North Carolina. On Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the age of 87, Clarence was called home to be with the Lord.

Born and raised in Chapel Hill, NC, Clarence remained a beloved and active member of the Chapel Hill community throughout his life. He attended Orange County Training School and developed into a skilled carpenter and a true “jack of all trades.” Over the years, he shared his talents through many avenues, including a brief period working with both Jones and Knotts Funeral Homes of Chapel Hill, NC.

Clarence accepted Christ early in life and joined Barbee Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Later, he became a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, where he faithfully served on the Trustee Board, the Deacons Board, and the Usher Board. He was also a former member of the Order of Knights of Pythias Lodge #134, serving as their treasurer for many years.

On February 27, 1960, Clarence married, Rosa Jane Bynum. For 65 years, he was blessed to be treated like a king by his devoted wife. Together they raised one daughter, and Clarence poured his heart into being a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Clarence was an avid sports fan and a loyal supporter of his beloved North Carolina Tar Heels. Known for his daily “rounds” around town, Clarence always kept an eye on his community—making sure everything was as it should be and lending a helping hand wherever needed.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Rosa Jane Farrar of the home; his daughter, Rita Robinson (Don) of Springfield, VA; two grandchildren, Dondre’ Robinson of Washington, DC, and Gabrielle Robinson of Kansas City, MO; two siblings, Katherine Sanford of Haw River, NC, and Eugene Farrar of Chapel Hill, NC; two sisters-in-law, Mozelle Baldwin (Howard) of Chapel Hill, NC; Ella Mae(Toy Jr.) Farrar of Baltimore, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by six siblings: Toy Jr., Bernice, Charles, Ernest, Robert, and Stella.

Clarence will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his church and community, his craftsmanship, and the quiet but steady way he cared for those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and service will live on in all who knew him.
