On October 18,2025, Amy Garner Suitt slipped into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by loved ones, after a ten year battle against Breast Cancer. Her journey wasn’t always easy but she met every challenge with grace, humor and hope.
Amy was born on November 23, 1971 to Alvin and Omelia Garner. She was the baby girl of her siblings Lashell, Pam, Vera and Alvin whom she loved fiercely and held near and dear to her heart. She attended Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools, attended both East Carolina University and North Carolina Central University, then eventually graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Services Coordination from Western Governor’s University in 2022. Shortly after celebrating this accomplishment, she returned to WGU and obtained a Master’s degree in Health Services Administration. Amy was determined to take her education even further, and was actively enrolled in classes until her illness required that she focus her attention on her health. She had a love for learning and developing her skills, always improving in such a way that she continued to be a wealth of knowledge and service to those around her.
Amy’s heart held space for all who knew her. Providing a safe place for all to feel comforted by her love. Whether she was your tech guru, your Cake Lady, a mom away from home, a trusted friend, or a prayer warrior, she was always sure to show up in whatever way she was needed. Her smile could soften the hardest day, and her faith carried her through seasons that would have broken most. Amy always believed that her faith was bigger than any fear that life or her illness presented and she was sure to keep those around her encouraged and uplifted along the way.
Amy is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother, Omelia Garner, and her daughter Kacey Suitt. She leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, Russell Suitt, her father, Alvin Garner; nine children, Lee (Brandy), James, Robert, Dwayne, Mattie, Russell (Jasmine), Ebony, Sherina, and Nick; Her best friend and sister Alana Collins (George) and godson Andre; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, “bonus” children, family and friends that will cherish her memories forever.
Amy fought a good fight for many years. Her love and trust in the Lord kept her strong until her body decided it was time to rest. She lived a quiet strength that reflected her deep trust in God. Even when the world made no sense, she believed that He was near- seeing her, holding her, and guiding her every step of the way. She was living proof that God truly is closer than you think. Amy taught us that joy can exist even in pain, and that faith can anchor us when everything else feels uncertain.
